It may seem strange, but as long as I’ve been reviewing toys, I’ve never tried one of my vibes in the tub. Mostly this is due to the fact that up until now I’ve lived in apartments with only a stand up shower. When I received the Calypso 2 waterproof vibe from California Exotics, I figured this was the perfect item to try out the bathtub in my new apartment.
I rummaged through my drawers and found a Lush Big Blue Bathbomb that I’d been hanging on to thinking I’d be able to use it someday. I had a tub full of blue island water, smelling like lemon and lavender. I tried out the Calypso 2 in the tub, the water dulling the vibrations a little. I held in a breath and left the vibrations on high while dropping the battery pack into the water…..
Worked perfectly! Some toys that claim to be waterproof always look suspicious to me. But the Calypso 2 handled the water like a pro. No interruption of vibrations, this little vibe didn’t skip a beat.
The Calypso 2 includes a battery pack that takes 2 AAA batteries, and a blue silicone bulb that houses the vibrating bullet. The blue silicone is slightly squishy and flexible, making it easy to maneuver and hit just the right spot. The shape of the bulb is slightly odd, almost reminding me of a deflated balloon.
Swirling blue designs adorn the white plastic battery pack, showcasing two buttons that are barely raised. One turns on the vibrator, then the second handles the 3 vibration levels, and 4 vibration patterns. One the lowest setting, the Calypso 2 was a little tame for me, but the medium and high were much better.
I was impressed with the vibration patterns. The first vibration pattern is what I would call a “teaser”. The vibrations start in beats, getting stronger till a long high vibration. This pattern certainly couldn’t get me off on it’s own, but followed by the jackhammer setting that comes next, it’s a good combo. I only found the last pattern in the sequence to be undesirable. But that is personal preference.
Overall I was impressed with California Exotics Calypso 2, from it’s Couture Collection. I really only have one complaint. Because the buttons are only slightly raised, unless you keep your finger on the button the entire time, you might miss the vibration button and turn off the unit entirely. That happened to me at the wrong moment. An improvement might be something to differentiate the buttons by adding something like a ridge or extra bumps, like braille.
You can find the Calypso 2 for sale at PinkCherry!
~Thank you California Exotics for sending me this waterproof vibe in exchange for an honest review.
